Big Island Field Trip Day 1: arrival and check in

The group consists of a total of ten people, inclusive of 2 instructors for the course. We arrived at the RAINY town of Hilo in the evening and made our way to the hostel which was somewhere between Hilo and Kilauea.

Quick updates!

1. the kauai trip was cancelled and would possibly be reschedule cos noah booked the wrong date (july!) and i wonder how none of us noticed the error. still a mystery to date.

2. Vog worsens here in honolulu. Kilaeua's summit has been spewing gas, dust and stuff and due to unfavourable wind conditions, it made its way here.

this was on saturday i think. normally i get a very clear view of diamond head from my house.

waikiki shrouded in vog

and it got worse on monday

u're supposed to be able to see the horizon

you're supposed to be able to see waikiki

5. I've finally passed one more psych chapter after the second try. Now i have a C and i can finally wash my hands off it.

6. Big Island Project

Mad rush to the end. Even with some else's former report which i could refer to for help, it took me some time.

On hiatus

Alright folks.. erm i'm gonna take a break from blogging for a week i think. Crunch time.

Here's what's coming up...the reports and projects this time round are pretty major. I knew i was asking for it when i decided to go for a trip to another island this weekend.

The Big Island Field Trip actually requires us to ground truth the geologic map we produced in the report due on 30 April. Basically for that report we are required to produce a geologic map based on various types of remote sensing data and all, and provide justifications as to why we labeled certain sections the way they are. When we get to the Big Island, we have to go down into the field (which is part of the Kilauea volcano) and armed with GPS and stuff, compare the map with the actual field observations. Oh, we're also gonna get to view active lava flows! Scott (our instructor) is gonna get a permit for that...Can't wait!

Well, basically the above email extract says that I have to pass one more chapter of the psychology text to get a C grade. I cant wait for this to be over...one chapter takes about 5 hours to study and out of like 40-50 pages or so only 10 questions will come out and the passing mark is a ridiculous 9 out of 10.

3 hydrogeology lab reports are also due ... ok way overdue. But they're the least of my concern right now...

Ok folks... good luck with the mugging... here's wishing everyone (except nickbish and phoebe)

ALL THE BEST FOR THE EXAMS!!!
