MAUI DAY 1(a): from Honolulu, O'ahu to Kahalui, Maui

We arrived at Maui at 8.37 am from our 8am flight at Honolulu. Really fortunate coz even though Sandy and Ona were away, their son, Seth and his gf Whitney volunteered to send not just me, but all my friends to the airport! If not for them i would have had to take the bus at 5.45 am.

The Maui and Big Island Gang this time round consists of the the same people who i went with the other time (minus Satomi who has gone back to Japan) plus two new people: Tony and Yuuki. Tony's from Guam and he's a teacher here at one of the high schools. Yuuki on the other hand is another exchange student from Kyoto University.

West Maui mountains (Kahalawai) - a single extinct volcano that time has carved into steep canyons, accessible at just a few places, such as Iao valley which we will be going to on day 3.

the lonely cup (yokes, remember this? :p)

for some reason, OGG is the code for Kahalui Airport. Nobody seems to know why.

Kahalui is the commercial and industrial center of Maui. The island's biggest airport and principal shipping harbour are located here.

time to get the van!
