Sea breeze

One of the things i find extremely fascinating about Hawaii is how we actually get to see the stuffs we learn in Geography in action. Take the next few series of pictures for example, they show the effects of sea breeze. Basically in the day time, the land heats up faster than the ocean, and this sets air flowing from the ocean to land. When the breeze meets the mountain ranges here, they rise and start forming clouds. This is why it rains almost everyday in UH coz it is located in one of the valleys. The pictures below were taken at around dusk, so we get to see massive clouds above the mountain range. As you scroll down, we shift from the mountains to the direction of the sea. (UH is like a 15 min drive to the beach).

the Manoa Valley. The building which i go to for my lessons is the tallest one with the blue window. That's the Pacific Ocean Science and Technology building where geology is but a subset of the things they offer under that school. Notice the clouds that have accumulated over the course of the day.

i shifted the camera to my left towards the ocean. Notice how clear the sky is away from the valley.

and left further. at night, the land breeze will bring those clouds from the mountains out into the oceans. Ah, the true wonders of nature.
